Bret Culp

An Award-Winning Visual Effects Supervisor/Producer and Second Unit Director, Bret Culp has contributed to more than 60 feature films, miniseries, and television shows with nearly three decades of industry experience. He is currently the Senior Visual Effects Supervisor on the critically acclaimed The Expanse.

After attending the Film and Photography program at Ryerson University in Toronto, Bret quickly worked his way to Senior Artist at top Toronto production companies. He designed and produced distinguished commercials and motion graphics for clients such as Coca-Cola and The Discovery Channel. He received an Emmy nomination for creating the TekWar miniseries opening title sequence.

In 1994, William Shatner and partners formed C.O.R.E. Digital Pictures and asked Bret to join and later head up the visual effects division. In the company's 16 years they contributed cutting-edge visual effects to 120 films and television projects.

As VFX Supervisor Bret has directed his teams to create breathtaking visual effects on projects such as the critically acclaimed series The Expanse, Stephen King's Gerald's GameCamelotIMAX: Hubble 3DSilent HillSaw 2 and the cult classic Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle. Bret was a second unit director and the Visual Effects Supervisor on The Tudors, for which he received two Best Visual Effects Gemini Awards and two more nominations over the four-year run of the show. He is a sought-after lecturer and juror, holds positions on numerous advisory committees and is a member of the Directors Guild of Canada (DGC) as well as the Visual Effects Society (VES).

Bret is also an exhibiting fine art photographer and author of the book, The Beauty of Impermanence.
