Please join VES Washington for our Creative Spotlight series with Independent Visual Effects Producer and Consultant, Mike Chambers as he discusses his journey from The Pickle to Tenet.
Mike got his start working for a number of seminal figures in the industry, including Roger Corman, Doug Trumbull and Richard Edlund. Since then, he has contributed to the visual effects efforts on numerous Academy & BAFTA award-winning films, most recently on Tenet, his fourth collaboration with esteemed writer-producer-director Christopher Nolan.
Other recent credits include Greyhound, Dunkirk, Alice Through the Looking Glass, Transcendence and The Dark Night Rises. Mike has been honored to receive three VES Awards for Best Visual Effects for Dunkirk, Inception and The Day After Tomorrow and was nominated for his work on I Am Legend.
A valuable member of the Visual Effects Society for more than 20 years, he has served on the Board of Directors as Vice Chair, Secretary and six years as the BOD Chair, as well as multiple terms as Chair of various committees such as the VES Awards and Membership committees. Mike is also a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences and the Producers Guild of America.

You are cordially invited to a Movie & Pub Night, hosted by the Washington Section of the VES on Thursday, March 5th, at the AMC Factoria in Bellevue (3505 Factoria Blvd, Bellevue, WA).
VES-Washington has purchased a limited number of tickets to see a screening of THE INVISIBLE MAN starring Elisabeth Moss. After the show, we’ll convene at the nearby Applebee’s — first drink’s on us — to discuss the movie, and the enjoy the fellowship of our VES colleagues. Factoria 8 showtime is currently set @ 7:30p, we’ll update you if that changes.
Please note that this is not one of our usual studio-sponsored screenings. The Washington Section has purchased these tickets individually, so they will be available on a strict first-come, first-served basis, and to WA-VES members only — no guests, please. We have space for maximum 20 people to RSVP (use the RSVP button below), and we’re about half-full as of this update. Please get your RSVP in no later that Wednesday, Mar 4th by 11pm to ensure your spot.

Now that the 18th Annual VES Awards season is underway, we once again invite VES members to participate in our Nomination Panels. The Nomination Event will be held worldwide on January 4, 2020.
Any active VES member who can travel to one of the cities listed below may participate.
This is your chance to determine who will ultimately walk up to the podium on January 29, 2020, to collect a coveted VES Award. A single vote may make the difference between being nominated… or not… and that vote could be yours!
Past participants know that this is the must-attend event of the awards season. Not only will you view some of the most amazing visual imagery of 2019, you’ll get to see exclusive behind-the-scenes footage while participating in the single best networking opportunity of the year. It’s a chance to see old friends, meet the best and brightest in the visual effects field, and learn new techniques that you can apply to your own craft. All of that, plus the satisfaction of knowing that you have participated in choosing what will ultimately be the Nominations announced to the press for the 18th Annual VES Awards.
Judges who register to participate will receive information about specific times and locations from their local section representatives once their applications are received. If you are ready to make a difference, please submit your Panel Judge Application BELOW. Make sure you check the box indicating which of the Nomination Event locations you are applying for.
The Nomination Event is a full-day event held on Saturday, January 4, 2020 around the globe. Nominees will be announced on Monday, January 6, 2020. We look forward to receiving your Judge Application to make this year’s Nomination Event a success!
