Visual Effects Society Names Acclaimed Virtual Reality/Immersive Technology Pioneer Dr. Jacquelyn Ford Morie as Recipient of the Georges Méliès Award

Dr. Morie has made immense contributions to Virtual Reality.  She redefined the possibilities of immersive media, infusing them with profound emotional and educational resonance. Dr. Morie’s visionary leadership has shaped pivotal projects across health, space exploration, art, and education, underscoring her as a transformative innovator and thought leader.

“Dr. Jacki Morie exemplifies enduring impact at the intersection of art, science, and technology, shaping the future of virtual experiences worldwide,” said VES Chair Kim Davidson. “She has been at the edge of technological advances since the 1980s, and remains dedicated to mentoring the next generation of VR innovators while forging ahead with new paradigms in immersive media.  For her contributions to the computer animation and visual effects industries and role as a defining voice of immersive technology, we are honored to award Jacki with the prestigious VES Georges Méliès Award.”

Visual Effects Society Names Two-Time Emmy Award Winner and Golden Globe Nominated Actor-Producer Hiroyuki Sanada as Recipient of the VES Award for Creative Excellence

Sanada has played exceptional roles in Japanese and Hong Kong action films and dramatic cinema for more than five decades. He has made a tremendous impact as a cultural ambassador for Japan. And with his critically acclaimed work as a producer and actor in the titular role in the FX historical drama series Shōgun, Sanada has reached a historic achievement as the first Japanese actor to win a Primetime Emmy Award.

“Hiroyuki Sanada has been at the center point of compelling cinematic stories that use visual effects to enhance unforgettable storytelling for decades,” said Kim Davidson, VES Chair. “As a longtime adviser for Hollywood films to ensure authentic depictions of Japanese history to serving as the creative force behind juggernaut drama Shōgun, Sanada’s work has left an indelible mark on the global cultural landscape. We are thrilled to honor him with the VES Award for Creative Excellence!”

Visual Effects Society Names Academy-Award Winning Filmmaker Takashi Yamazaki as Recipient of the VES Visionary Award

Yamazaki is celebrated for his consummate artistry, expansive storytelling and profound ability to use visual effects to bring his unique visions to life.

“Takashi Yamazaki is a renowned talent in Japanese cinema, who accomplished a significant feat when he became only the second director to win an Academy Award for Best Visual Effects, and in the process reinvigorated a legendary kaiju franchise,” VES Chair Kim Davidson.  “Yamazaki has been at the forefront in using visual effects to tell remarkable stories that transfix audiences and create unforgettable cinematic experiences.   As a creative force who has made an indelible mark in the world of filmed entertainment, we are honored to award him with the prestigious VES Visionary Award.”

Born in Matsumoto City, Nagano Prefecture in 1964, Takashi Yamazaki is a Japanese filmmaker and visual effects supervisor, counted as one of Japan’s leading film directors.
