Shyam Kannapurakkaran

Shyam Kannapurakkaran is a visual effects artist, designer & educator based in Los Angeles, California. His latest work involves post-production and technology for virtual reality experiences (VRE) including Le Musk (directed by A. R. Rahman), The Walking Dead, an American Express 360 ̊  commercial and a Google spotlight story for IWC – The Road Less Traveled. He has also collaborated with top VR capture and post-production technology developers including Jaunt, Nokia, and The Foundry. Shyam’s work has earned several awards including the 3D Film Festival: Best Experimental Film (Tarang) and Roman Bronze Award, Nvidia: Best Immersive Project as well as numerous film festivals and exhibitions worldwide.

Born and raised in India, Shyam’s passion for art & design developed into a career as an architect. Eventually his passion to blend art and technology found its home at the Texas A&M University where he received his Master of Science Degree in Visualization focusing on stereoscopy and its influence on the audience experience. After graduation he worked as an apprentice stereoscopic artist at the Walt Disney Animation Studios in Burbank, CA.

While at Texas A&M University, he worked on Tarang, an award-winning student film as well as interactive installations. He eventually moved to Los Angeles, CA to advance his professional career, working as an apprentice as a stereographer for Walt Disney Studios Wreck-It Ralph feature film.
Today, Shyam works as a post-production supervisor for VR and MR experiences. He is also a technical artist for Sole Icon Productions, collaborating with beauty industry artists on high-end commercials while producing content and developing workflows for VR projects.
