Brian Connor

Before joining the team at Double Negative,  Brian Connor served as the Head of 2D at Scanline VFX; as a Compositing Supervisor at Digital Domain - Vancouver. He spent over a decade at Industrial Light & Magic (ILM) in various roles from 2001 to 2008. In 2008 he helped set up ILM-Singapore as a teacher, mentor and Compositing Supervisor. He has freelanced in Los Angeles and worked at various visual effects facilities including DreamQuest Images, Discreet, Disney’s The Secret Lab, and Paramount’s Digital Design. Connor has received many awards for his work including the prestigious Telly Award, Broadcast Design Award, VES Award for 'Best Compositing in a Motion Picture' and was recently nominated for a Prime Time EMMY for helping lead the work on 'Catch-22'.

Originally from Chicago, Illinois, USA, Connor earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Broadcasting from Illinois State University, where he was awarded 'Mass Communication Graduate of the Year' 2003. While in San Francisco he also taught his chosen field of endeavor at the Academy of Art University for four years. Brian co-authored a book called 'The Encyclopedia of Visual Effects'. He was a main contributor to Ron Brinkmann’s 2nd edition of 'The Art & Science of Digital Compositing'. He is a current member of both VES and AMPAS.

Specialties: Leading and motivating artists to create and do more than they thought possible. Liaise between studios and make sure the VFX Supe and client get the creative changes they want. Identifying and solving creative/technical problems. Creating training materials and running bi-weekly team meetings to disseminate information and foster creative involvement. Getting things done no matter what.
